Thomas W. Lavelle lll, born November 27, 1988 passed away on January 3, 2020.
Born in Scranton, he was a longtime resident of Pocono Summit, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his mother, Carol Smicherko Lavelle, his father, Thomas W Lavelle Jr. and wife Diana, and his sister Gwendolyn Lavelle. Also surviving are maternal grandmother Mary Ann Strecker, paternal grandparents Thomas and Margaret Lavelle, aunt Donna Smicherko Kupetz, aunt Carol Lavelle Golosky and husband Stephen, aunt Joanne Lavelle Sheridan and husband Joseph, step-siblings Benjamin and Jennai Hodges, and many loving cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Joseph Smicherko and uncle Robert Lundberg.
Thomas was a graduate of Scranton Prep and Penn State University. While at Penn State, Thomas studied history and forestry, became a member of the Shreyers Honors College, and participated in the Four Diamonds Fund dance marathon. An avid reader and history buff, Thomas enjoyed studying the military, prominent historical figures, and the civil war, as well as all types of biographies and documentaries. Always making his friends and family laugh with his quick wit and great sense of humor, Thomas also enjoyed the beach, traveling, hiking, rock climbing, and spending time with his loyal and loving sister, Gwendolyn. The family holds treasured memories of cider-making days, game nights of Pictionary and Cranium, and holiday gatherings where Thomas made everyone smile. A great big brother, son, grandson, cousin, and friend, Thomas was a bright and shining star in the lives of many.
Family and friends may call on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with words of remembrance beginning at 7:30 p.m.
