Angela M. Scarantino, 79, died Friday due to complications from Alzheimer’s. She resided at the home of her sister Beverly, in Clarks Summit.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Zaccagnino Mele. She was married to the love of her life, Stephen Scarantino for 55 years, who passed away on April 25, 2020.
Angela graduated from Dunmore High School in 1963.She was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore. She was employed by Mele Construction as a bookkeeper and office manager for years, later becoming co-owner of Jon Sal Corporation. Angela was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and godmother. She had great love for her family and friends and was loved by everyone who knew her.
She loved cooking, entertaining, and dancing with her friends, the “Villa-ettes.” In spite of her Alzheimer’s, she still knew all the words to the 50s and 60s songs and still danced to them. She also loved her trips to Atlantic City. Angela was a member of the Enrico Caruso Lodge 2770, Sons and Daughters of Italy and served as trustee for many years, a member of the Corvette Club of America, and the Antique Auto Club of America.
Angela is survived by her son John and wife Kim, Clarks Summit; grandsons Tyler and Cayden, Clarks Summit; a sister Beverly Occulto, Clarks Summit; a brother-in-law Dino Darbenzio and companion Mary Ann Capone, Dunmore; a niece Catrina Gromelski, Clarks Summit; a nephew Todd Occulto, Dunmore; niece Desiree Fabri and husband Brian, Lakeville; a niece Mia Darbenzio and wife Krista Kulp, Millsboro, DE; great-nephews Cabe and Nash Gromelski, Clarks Summit, who helped care for their Aunt “GG”; great-nephew Bret Occulto, Palmerton; and great-nephew Bryson Fabri, Lakeville. To all nieces and nephews, Angela was referred to as Aunt “GG”. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Karen A. Darbenzio.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore. Interment to follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Friday from 5-7 p.m.
