Angelo Vito Valvano

Angelo Vito Valvano, 86, of Dunmore, passed peacefully Tuesday surrounded by his family at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore. Surviving him is his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, the former JoAnn Matylewicz Valvano. 
Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Nicola and Theresa Siconolfi Valvano. A 1954 graduate of Dunmore High School, he was a United States Army veteran who proudly served his country. He worked various jobs, starting as a paperboy in his childhood, working for A&P for 18 years, and retired from Gress Refrigeration Services in Scranton, as warehouse manager. After retirement, he worked at the former Lackawanna County Stadium in the commissioners’ box. He also did floral delivery for Scavone Wholesale that started out as a favor and ended up as his Saturday job, taking his daughters along for the rides.
He was a faithful and devout Catholic as a member of St. Rocco’s Church and more recently of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore. He was actively involved with St. Rocco’s as a member of the choir, and participated yearly in the St. Rocco’s festival and procession.
Angelo was a humble man who took great pleasure in the simple things in life. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He and his brother were part of the Dunmore Aggies where they would bowl weekly and enjoy the camaraderie of friends. He enjoyed many vacations with family and friends. In his travels, he had the memorable opportunity to visit his mother’s birthplace in Italy and meet additional relatives who welcomed him with open arms. He could be found enjoying his crosswords while listening to music varying from the big band era to polkas. He enjoyed his walks throughout Dunmore. Family and friends were dear to him and he would do anything for them.
Angelo’s family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the whole staff at DaVita Dialysis in Dunmore for your wonderful care and friendships for the past 12 years.  We would also like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Boccagno, Dr. Eagan, Dr. Prior, Debbie and the staff at 4 South Allied Nursing for your excellent care. Lastly, our deep gratitude goes out to Hospice of the Sacred Heart for your utmost care and compassion for Angelo.
Also surviving are his daughters, Jennifer, Dunmore; and Christina England and husband, Ron, and granddaughter, Kendra, all of Delco, North Carolina; brothers, Guy and wife, Marie; and Joseph, all of Dunmore; sister-in-law, LuAnn Kaszuba and husband, Carl, Scranton; sister-in-law, Kathy Krystyniak, Estero, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Stephen and Florence Matylewicz; a sister, Mary Minelli and husband, Joseph; sister-in-law, Angela Valvano; and brother-in-law, Frank Krystyniak.  
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Rocco’s Church, 122 Kurtz St. in the Bunker Hill section of Dunmore.
Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.  
Family and friends may pay their respects Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore.
