Ann Marie “Dolly” Gallagher of Dunmore died Thursday at Marywood Heights in Scranton.
Born in Scranton she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Bernetta LaRusso Gallagher. She was a graduate of Saint Anthony’s Grade School in Dunmore and Dunmore High School and then went on to study at Marywood College.
Prior to retirement, she was employed in the Display Department of the Globe Store and by JC Penney in the Visual Merchandising Department for 26 years. Dolly had also attended Empire Beauty School and had worked as a cosmetologist. She was the owner and operator of Dolly’s Flea Market, Scranton and was also the designer of beautiful wreaths and baskets which were displayed at numerous craft fairs.
Although Dolly had no children, she was a loving and devoted aunt who was there to care for her many nieces and nephews. Through her kindness, love, and generosity, she forged a relationship with them as though she was their second mother.
Surviving is a brother, James “Burger” Gallagher and wife Donna of Pittston Township; nieces and nephews, Colleen Gallagher who was also her godchild, Sara Gallagher and partner Christiana Gebhardt, Lynn Tanana and husband Vince, Eddie Gallagher who was also a godchild and wife Amy; great-nieces and great-nephews, Pio and Victoria Tanana, and Alivia and Michael Gallagher; godchildren, Lilua Del Rosso, Carmella Rynerson, Cathy Skirpan, Sal LaRusso Jr., and Tom LaRusso; as well as a sister-in-law Robin Gallagher of Scranton.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Gallagher and his wife Elaine; a great-niece Breigh Gallagher, and her best friend Barbara Dominick.
Her family would like to thank the staff of both Marywood Heights and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the excellent care given to Dolly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore. Interment will follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects Wednesday at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, from 5-7 p.m.
