Anthony A. Zippittelli, Jr. Obituary

Anthony A. Zippittelli, Jr., 86, Clarks Summit, died Tuesday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.  He is survived be his wife, the former JoAnne Gubanics. 

Born in Scranton, son of the late Anthony A. Sr. and Martha Cina Zippittelli, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War where his plane was shot down and he survived seven days in the Yellow Sea.  He later joined the U.S. Naval Reserves where he served for 20 years.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed by General Dynamics. 

Anthony was a dedicated member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in South Scranton where he was always active in the numerous events and activities.  He was and outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid fan of the Steelers and the Yankees.  He was also a member of the Victor Alfieri Club in West Scranton.

Surviving is a daughter, Jean Stefonetti and husband Michael, and a son, Anthony Zippittelli, all of Clarks Summit; grandchildren Angelo Monaco of Thornton and Ashleigh Monaco of Glenn Mills; great-grandchildren Emma Jean and Stephen Daniel Monaco; his brother Louis Zippittelli of Taylor; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard, and several siblings. 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the care and compassion shown to Anthony during his times of need.

The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Paul of the Cross Parish 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton.  Interment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Family and friends may pay their respects that morning at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
