Antoinette “Nettie” Siconolfi Mecca, 89, formerly of Dunmore, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart. Her children and grandchildren were present in her final moments. She was the wife of the late Domnic “Don” Mecca, her husband of 50 years, who passed away in 2015.
Nettie was the daughter of Pasquale and Maria Siconolfi, both of whom emigrated from southern Italy prior to her birth. She was preceded in death by her sister, Angeline Siconolfi, and her brother, Charles Siconolfi.
She is survived by her three children: Mary Lynn Cabrera and her husband, Al, of Lodi, California, David Mecca and his wife, Beata, of Malvern, Pennsylvania, and Ann Mecca of New York, New York and her grandchildren, Elisa Cabrera, Anya Mecca, and Zofia Mecca, as well as several cousins.
A dedicated and compassionate worker, Nettie spent over 25 years working in the volunteer services department at the former Mercy Hospital. Even in retirement, she continued to work part time at Walmart in Taylor, PA, where she made many friends and continued to work until shortly before her illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10AM at Immaculate Conception Church, located at Taylor Avenue and East Gibson Street, Scranton. A private interment will follow. Family and friends may visit at the church on Friday from 9AM until the time of mass.
