Antonino “Tony” Ingargiola, 84, died Wednesday at the Green Ridge Care Center, surrounded by his loving family. His wife of fifty years, the late Joanne Cantarella Ingargiola, died in 2015.
Born April 12, 1937 in Carini, Sicily, he was the son of the late Rosolino and Veronica Badalamenti Ingargiola.
He served in the Italian Army and worked as a laborer in Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. He came to America in 1964, met his bride in New York, and settled in Dunmore. Prior to his retirement he worked for over 30 years for the Pennsylvania Gas and Water Company.
He was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore. He loved God, his wife, his children, but most of all he loved being Papa to his six grandchildren. He was a master gardener and could grow any vegetable in his backyard garden.
He is survived by sons, Tony, Dunmore; Louis and wife, Colleen, Dunmore; a daughter Veronica Duffy, his primary care giver, and husband John, Archbald; grandchildren, Conor, Hannah, and Tori Duffy, and Julia, Amelia, and Antonio Ingargiola; his sister, Josephine Paparelli and husband Frank, Archbald; brothers, Salvatore, Giuseppe and wife Veronica, and Giovanni and wife Concetta all of Carini, Sicily; his sister-in-law Lucy Verrastro and husband Ralph, Dunmore; and brother-in-law Canio Cantarella and wife Helen, Dunmore; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tony was also preceded in death by his grandson, baby Louis Ingargiola.
The family would like to give special thanks to all the nurses and staff at the Green Ridge Care Center, especially Katie Owens and his son-in-law John Duffy, who took great care of him this past year
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore. Internment to follow in Dunmore Cemetery. Those who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are required to wear a mask at both the funeral home and the church.
Friends may call Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
