Barbara D. Herring nee Zabielski, 61, of Dunmore, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. Surviving is her husband, Ralph. The couple have been married for 37 years.
Born in a military installation in Japan, she was the daughter of the late Joseph George and Mafalda Runco Hleiva. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School’s class of 1979 and received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Villanova University. She dedicated her life to children, working more than 20 years as a foster care case worker/adoption coordinator.
She was an animal lover and dedicated fur baby mama to her cats, Callie and Lilly, and her beloved German Shepherd, Judge. She enjoyed taking vacations, in particular visiting the beach and Treasure Island, Florida, with her husband and son.
Also surviving are her son, Kyle and wife, Kelly, and her granddaughter, Cameron, Audubon, Pa.; a sister, Deborah Spadine and husband, David, Bradenton, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Suzanne Herring, Philadelphia; aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Ellis.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment, St. Michael’s Cemetery, Dunmore.
Friends and family may call Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
