Barbara Ann Spitz Fendrick, 90, passed away peacefully at her home this week surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Dickson City, Barbara was the daughter of Abraham and Helen Spitz. She graduated from Olyphant High School and attended Pennsylvania State University and Fairleigh Dickinson University. Barbara met the love of her life, Donald J. Fendrick of Scranton, while working for Du Mont Labs, Clifton N.J. They married in October, 1956, and celebrated their life together until his passing in 1995.
Barbara was a loving and dedicated sibling, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Barbara is survived by her sister Marcia and brother Dr. Martin Spitz (Harriet), her 3 children: Lori Raub (Morris), Mark Fendrick (Jenifer) and Jay Fendrick (Shelly), her 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as her many much-loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her family, Barbara cherished her lifelong friendships and her beloved Boston Terriers. She was an expert baker and an avid tennis and Mah Jong player. She thoroughly enjoyed over 20 summers at the Village of Four Seasons. Barbara loved watching television game shows and was a knowledgeable and dedicated fan of NFL football, devoting much of the fall and winter months supporting her treasured New York Giants.
A graveside funeral will be held at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, June 11, at the Dalton Jewish Cemetery, led by her nephew, Rabbi Jeffrey Eisenstat. Shiva will be held Tuesday evening from 6:15-8 p.m. at Elan Gardens Senior Living, 465 Venard Rd., South Abington Township.
