Beatrice A. Gowka, 96, of Old Forge, died Monday morning in the Jewish Home of Eastern PA, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Sylvester A. Gowka, who died in 1969.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Frank and Rosalie Grado Spargo, she was educated in Scranton public schools and was a member of St. Lucy’s Church, Scranton. Before retirement, she was employed by Moses Taylor Hospital in the housekeeping department. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving is a daughter, Judy Tutino, husband Joseph Tutino, and grandson Joey Tutino, all of Old Forge; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Jenny Wasielewski, Josephine Posocco, and Kathryn Peptis, and a brother, Peter Raia.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ken Sebastianelli and the staff at the Jewish Home of Eastern PA for their excellent care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church, West Scranton.
Family and friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of mass.
Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
