Betty Jean (Bets) Gregory passed peacefully Friday at Marywood Heights Nursing Home under the care of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart at the age of 92. She is reunited with her husband, James (Chocky) Gregory, who passed away in 2011.
Together they had two children: son, Richard Gregory and wife, Cindy, of Danville; and daughter, Patty Srebro and husband, Edward, of Clarks Summit. She was blessed with five amazing grandchildren, Audrey Wyland and husband, Tim, Shamokin; Sara Gregory, Los Angeles, Calif.; Cole Srebro, who preceded her in death in 2015; Kayla Srebro, Moosic; and Tyler Gregory, Danville. She had two wonderful great-grandchildren, Madison and Mackenzie Wyland, Shamokin.
Born in 1931 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Betty Phillips. She was preceded in death by sisters, Lucille and Marion; and brother, Leonard (Sonny) Phillips.
Betty was a dedicated registered nurse for over 40 years, retiring from Regional Hospital of Scranton. She devoted her life to caring for others. She always put the needs of others before her own. Betty was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend with a heart of gold. No one will ever forget her beautiful blue eyes and kind and caring smile. She was an exceptional woman who cherished God, her family and loved ones. She will be truly missed.
We would like to acknowledge and express our gratitude to Dr. Phillip Boccagno, her doctor for several years, the entire staff at Marywood Heights Nursing Home for the great care they provided, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassion and for making her journey to go home with the Lord a peaceful one.
The funeral will be Wednesday with Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut St. in Dunmore. Relatives and friends are invited to a public viewing for Betty on Wednesday morning at Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
