Beverly S. Kanig, 90, S. Abington Twp. and formerly of Scranton, died Monday afternoon in Allied Services Skilled Nursing, Scranton. Her husband, the late Mike Kanig, died in 2004.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Isadore and Helen Jacobson Roth, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, Class of 1948. Beverly had been a dedicated volunteer and held various positions with numerous religious and civic organizations. In 1973, she organized the Northeastern PA Chapter of the American Diabetes Association in Scranton--a cause very close to her heart--and became its first president. She was also very proud of her work with the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind where she was a life member and had served as both president and vice president.
Surviving are daughters Gail Weinberger and husband Steven, PA; Sheri Boroda and husband Robert, MA; and Ronni Potosky and husband Toba, NY; grandchildren, Wendy Weinberger and husband Tony, Dr. Melissa Miller and husband Dr. Corey, Zachary Weinberger, Tyler Weinberger, Cody Weinberger, Jacqui Boroda, Rebecca Boroda, and Sasha Boroda; great-grandchildren Emerson, Grayson, and Annabelle; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Estelle Spiegel.
A graveside service will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery by Rabbi Benny Rapoport. All those attending are asked to follow current COVID protocol and wear a mask.
There is no local shiva.
