Bruce Muir Bissland, a proud Marine and beloved son of West Scranton, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born on July 6, 1947, to Archbald Bissland and Dorothy Muir Bissland, Bruce grew up with a strong sense of duty and resilience. He answered the call to serve his country as a United States Marine, completing a tour in Vietnam that shaped his character and deepened his appreciation for life’s quiet moments. He was also a graduate of Lackawanna College.
Bruce found purpose in the kitchen, where he became known for his skill as a cook and his gift for bringing people together. Whether preparing meals for family, friends, or neighbors, Bruce believed that food was more than sustenance—it was a way to show love, share stories, and build community.
Bruce is survived by his cherished wife, Eileen Wake Bissland, whose partnership with Bruce was rooted in devotion, humor, and shared strength; three daughters, Meredith Bissland, Julie Jordan and husband Walter, Bridget Bissland, and their mother, Elaine Gavin Bissland, as well as three grandsons, William Bissland and wife Samantha, Aidan Jordan and Liam Jordan. In addition, Bruce leaves behind his brother, Robert Bissland and wife Joann; his brother-in-law Dan Wake and wife Bernie; his sister-in-law, Nancy Beichler and husband Eric; as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Roberta Rogo and Helen Snyder.
Funeral services will take place at Savino Traditional Funerals & Cremation Care, 157 S Main Ave, Scranton on Monday at 11am. Visitors may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 6pm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Savino Traditional Funerals & Cremation Care, Carl J. Savino Jr., supervisor.
