Carmella Castellano Obituary

Carmella A. Castellano, 71, Scranton, died Sunday morning at home. She and her husband Vincent would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on August 30th.

Born in Scranton and raised in Dunmore she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Jennie Sica Montana and would have celebrated her 72nd birthday on August 19th. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1966 and prior to retirement she worked at Gertrude Hawk Chocolates in Dunmore. Carmella was a member of Parker Hill Church in Dickson City and was a former eucharistic minister at Immaculate Conception Church in Scranton.

As a four time cancer survivor, Carmella was a warrior.  She always fought her battle with a positive attitude and a smile on her face, and was an inspiration to many, who were fighting the same battle.  Carmella's family and friends meant the world to her.  She was a good-hearted person, who would do anything for anyone.  She always enjoyed being a member of the PAISBC program for cancer survivors, led by Abby Peck. Not only will Carmella be missed by her family and friends, but she will also be missed by her beloved dog Sky, whom she loved so much.

Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Traditional Hospice in Dunmore, and the Interventional Radiology staff at Geisinger CMC, for the care and compassion they had provided to Carmella.

Also surviving are a daughter Nadine Mando and her husband Jeff, Dickson City, a son Michael, Dunmore, two granddaughters, Madison and Aurora Castellano, Dunmore, a brother Mario Montana and his wife Marian, and a sister in law, Mary Lou Montana, all of Dunmore and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister Rose Lynott and two brothers Patrick Montana Jr. and Anthony Montana

A graveside funeral service will be held in the Dunmore Cemetery on Friday at 1:30PM by Pastor Paul McGuinness of Parker Hill Church. Family and friends, limited to 250 and wearing masks by state mandate, may attend the outside funeral service.
