Catherine M. (Harding) Gallagher

Catherine M. Gallagher, 84, Scranton, died Friday afternoon in Marywood Heights, Scranton.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, the late Edward F. Gallagher, who passed away in 1996.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Anthony and Marie Harrington Harding, she was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in West Scranton and prior to retirement had been employed as a clerk with the Scranton School District.  Cathy was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed being a season ticket holder to the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Red Barons with her husband and watching the Philadelphia Phillies on television.  A beloved daughter, wife, aunt, sister, cousin, and friend, she will be deeply missed by all those who knew her. 

The family would like to thank the Inpatient and Outpatient staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their loving treatment and dedicated care provided to Catherine over the last year. 

Surviving are her nieces and nephews whom she treasured, and they thought of Cathy as their second Mother: Marie Hickey, Sarasota, FL; Cathy Dolinish and husband PJ, Scranton; Eugene Hickey and wife Elaine, Juneau, AK; Margi Cummings and husband Patrick, Roaring Brook Township; and Marie Shiffer and husband Gordon, Scranton; a nephew, Enrico Lemoncelli, Scranton; as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. 

She was also preceded in death by her sister Margaret Hickey and husband Eugene, brother James Harding, niece Ann Hickey Lemoncelli, and cherished dog, Marble.

The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, Jackson St., Scranton—a parish that was dear to her heart and where she received all of her sacraments.  Interment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic there are no public calling hours for visitation, but all are invited to attend the Mass while observing current safety guidelines.
