Charles Sileo, Jr. Obituary

Charles A. “Charlie” Sileo, Jr., 71, Dunmore, died Wednesday in Regional Hospital of Scranton. He and his wife, the former Donna Decker, had celebrated 50 years of marriage on May 26th. The couple met when Charlie was the paper boy for Donna’s family.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Lola Barber Sileo, Sr. and was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1969. Charlie was owner of C.A. Sileo Building Contractor, which was in its 4th generation, and was an active member of Green Ridge Assembly of God Church in Scranton. He appreciated opportunities to serve his community and was thrilled to be part of a 3-day full-home makeover project in 2008 for a family in need chosen by the church. A selfless man who was always thinking of and caring for others, he modeled his life after the description of God in Psalm 68:5: “Father of the fatherless…” In sports, business, and life he was happy to give opportunities to those often overlooked. He was a craftsman who took care in his work, willing to go the extra mile to make his work last. An amateur photographer, he had a home dark room, photographed several weddings, and won a Scranton Times photography contest. He was an avid bowler and earned the nickname, “spare man.” Charlie was active in coaching his sons in sports such as Dunmore Biddy Basketball, church softball, and especially Dunmore Little League Baseball in which he took pride in the achievement of leading the 1992 All Star Team to the final four teams left in Pennsylvania. He loved and cherished his family and especially the time spent with his grandchildren.

His family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton ICU Department and ninth floor as well as Dr. William Speicher for the care and compassion shown to Charlie and his family during this difficult time.

Also surviving are two sons, Charles A. Sileo III and his wife Sylvia, Dunmore and James Sileo and his wife Bridget, Spring Brook Township, two sisters, Mary Ann Mistysyn, Scranton and Barbara Lester, Florida, five grandchildren, Amber, Kaylee, and Henry Sileo and Elcryssan and Bryce Gant, a great grandchild, Devon Odom and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Gaughan.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at noon in Green Ridge Assembly of God Church in Scranton by the Rev, David Twiss. Friends and family may visit at the church from 10AM until the time of service.
