Claire Brown

Claire Brown, 95, formerly of Dunmore, passed away August 23, 2023 at Lakewood Nursing Home, Nanticoke.  She is the widow of Donald C. Brown who died July 4, 1970.

Born December 12, 1927 in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late John and Carolyn Swetz Myernick.  Claire was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a proud Dunmorean for over 82 years.  The past several years she was a resident at Kingston Assisted Living Manor in Kingston, PA.  She was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore.  Prior to her retirement, Claire was secretary to the district manager for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.  She enjoyed traveling, sewing, crafting projects, and was always up for a party and having a good time.  Claire loved her family especially her grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Lakewood Nursing Home and Allied Hospice for the care, comfort, and kindness they showed not only our mother, but all her family during these most difficult days.

She is survived by her seven children, Gerald and wife AnneElaine (Dee), Beverly Cerra and husband Angelo, Robert and wife Janet, Dennis, Donald and wife Paula, Thomas and wife Kathy, Jean Tomulaitis and husband John; in addition to her children, Claire is survived by her 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren whom she adored; her sister Theresa Lichak; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Claire was preceded in death by her sisters Philamona and husband Norman Godowski, Barbara and husband Art Williams, and brother-in-law Stephan Lichak. 

Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that contributions in Claire’s memory be made to the Penn State Health Children's Hospital, Child Life, 500 University Dr., MC CH03 Hershey, PA 17033; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN, 38105.
