Claire J. Jacobson, 96, Passes Away

 

Claire J. Jacobson, a dedicated businesswoman and beloved matriarch, passed away on September 18, 2024 at the age of 96. Born on August 21, 1928, to Charles and Edna Bleistift Siegel. She and her family were originally from Long Island, NY. Claire lived a life filled with love, hard work, and adventure.

A Life of Partnership and Family

Claire was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Howard Jacobson, who passed away in 2014. Together, they built a beautiful family and a successful business. She is survived by her children, Gail Dickstein and Jeffrey Jacobson (Robin), and was preceded in death by her son-in-law David Dickstein in 2022. Claire's legacy lives on through her grandchildren and their spouses: Eric and Lauren Dickstein, Marc Dickstein and Mark Dato, Matthew and Salima Jacobson, and Shelley and Scott Hughes. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, ranging in age from less than a year to six years old.

Claire is also survived by her brother Alan Siegel and sister-in-law Anita, who reside in New Jersey.

## A Successful Career and Community Presence

For 60 years, Claire worked alongside her husband at Jacobson Hat Co., serving as the office manager and overseeing collections. Her strong work ethic and dedication were instrumental in the growth and prosperity of the business. Claire's impact extended beyond the workplace, as she was a prominent figure in the Scranton area for six decades.

## Passion for Travel and Leisure

Claire and Howard shared a love for golf, often playing together at Glen Oak Country Club. Their passion for travel took them around the world, combining business with pleasure. As pioneers in international trade, they were among the first to visit China when the United States allowed travel there. For over 40 years, they made regular trips to China and other Asian countries for business. Their adventures also took them through Europe, South America, and Africa, often accompanied by friends and family.

## Remembering Claire

A graveside funeral service to honor Claire's memory will be held Thursday, September 19th at 11 a.m. in Temple Hesed Cemetery in Dunmore by Rabbi Daniel Swartz. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Temple Hesed or the JCC. Shiva will be observed at 45 Oakford Circle Clarks Summit from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 p.m. Friday.

A special thank you to Jackie Damski and the other caregivers that did a fantastic job taking care of Claire.

Claire J. Jacobson will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a successful businesswoman, and an avid traveler. Her life was a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and the importance of family.
