Daniel Leonard Finnerty, 77, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, the former Karen Conway, the couple was married for 47 years.
Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Daniel R. and Faith Fleming Finnerty. He was a graduate of the former St. Paul’s High School in Scranton and was a Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. He lived in Dunmore his entire life. He started his career at the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. After leaving the railroad, he worked for the government and finished his career with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Paul’s Church and a member of their choir.
Dan was a loving husband and father. He was kind, compassionate and a caring person who deeply loved his family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Irish American Golf League.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially his nurses, Maureen and Meghan. Their compassion was much appreciated and comforting to the family during this time.
Also surviving are a daughter, Amy Finnerty, Dunmore; and a son, Daniel Finnerty and wife, Elicia, Clarks Summit; a sister, Sharon Dougher and husband, Bob, Dunmore; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jeannie Gilhooley.
The funeral will be Thursday at St. Paul’s Church, Penn Avenue, Scranton, with Mass at 11 a.m. Inurnment is private at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the church from 9 until the time of Mass.
