Daniel Liebrand, Sr., 84, West Scranton, died Wednesday at Geisinger-Community Medical in Scranton after courageously battling through health issues. He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, the late Mary M. Ulrich, who died in 2013.
Born and raised in Camden, NJ, he was a U.S. Army veteran having honorably served 7 years in the Reserves and had been employed by Conwed Corporation in Riverside, NJ prior to his retirement. He also served as president of his local AFL-CIO union. He helped to establish the Cramer Hill Boys and Girls Club in Camden where he would coach baseball for many years. He was a hardworking and selfless guy who would give anything he had to help someone out or give them a smile.
Knowing Dan meant that you had a friend for life. He was a jokester who wouldn’t hesitate to call someone a knucklehead and say the honest truth, but he had a heart of pure gold, and you couldn’t help but love him. He will be deeply missed and thought of often, but especially when watching the Dallas Cowboys play or eating a good Italian hoagie.
He is survived by three sons, Bob Ulrich and wife Jodie, West Scranton, who were his caregivers and best friends; Daniel Liebrand, Jr. and wife Donna, and Joseph D. Liebrand, all of New Jersey; grandchildren Jade, Joshua, and his namesake Daniel (Little D); April Lynn; and Amanda and Jen; several great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Drake, and all of his siblings.
Private arrangements were held at the convenience of the family.
