Dolores A. "Dolly" Davis Obituary

Dolores (Dolly Conte) Davis, born October 15, 1922, peacefully passed away at Elan Skilled Nursing Facility on February 28, 2024.    Dolly, aged 101, was preceded in death by her husband, Griffith Davis, in 1980, with whom she was married on Memorial Day in 1944.   Originally name Civita Dolores, she later preferred to be called Dolores, or Dolly.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of an Italian immigrant father, the late Mattia Conte and 2nd generation mother, the late Marianna Giordano.  Dolly was a 1940 graduate of Technical High School and a member of St Ann’s Basilica.  She was a devote Catholic who attended St Ann’s Novena and donated generously to all those in need.   She began her career as a switchboard operator at Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania and later joined her husband while stationed in Boston with the US Coast Guard.

Dolly was a strong- willed woman, full of life and always on the go.  She was a selfless, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.  Her influence was significant in the life of her grandchildren, especially her grandson Frankie.  Dolly enjoyed raising her family and cared deeply for her children, grandchildren, relatives and four-legged furry friends.

She will be remembered as a fabulous baker, renowned for her pies and famous Christmas Cookies.   Dolly always had a smile and a special way of sharing her joy of life.

She was also known for her style during her residency at the Elan Skilled Nursing Home, always dressed to the nines, with her matching earrings for every outfit, beads, lipstick and rouge.

Everyone who knew her, loved her, from her family and friends, to her neighbors, and the residents and staff of the Elan Skilled Nursing Home.

Dolly’s lovely soul will be greatly missed. Her kindness and positive attitude were an example for all of us.

She is survived by her daughters, Mame Davis and husband Tony Masiulis of Hollywood, Florida; Grayson Davis of Bend, Oregon; Karen Raulerson of Lake City, Florida; sons, Glenn Davis and wife Denise of Villa Rica, GA; Gary Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada;  nephews  Dr. Frederic Conte and wife Doreen of Australia; Norman Conte of Harleysville, Pa; nieces, Carol Pierson and husband Gene;  Rosalie Lasako and husband Harold; Betty Lou Cholish and husband, Bill; 12 Grandchildren-Frankie, Griffie, Alyse, Trey, Matthew, Christopher, Jordan, Jenna, Jonathan, Ian, Kai, Taj; and 11 Great Grandchildren.    She was preceded in death by her husband, Griffith T Davis; brother, Dr Nicholas F Conte and wife Virginia B Conte; son Griff W Davis; and Sister, Nina Conte.

The world has lost a beautiful person.

Interment will be Cathedral Cemetery where she will be laid to rest along- side her husband and son.

A Memorial mass will be scheduled in the spring, date has not yet been determined.

Donations may be made to St Joseph’s Center of Scranton or St Francis of Assisi Kitchen.

The family of Dolly Davis would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr Sebastianelli and the Staff at the Elan Skilled Nursing Home for all their love and compassionate care, and especially her roommate Joan Brady who was her guardian angel and watched over her with love and devotion.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
