Dolores Anne Keating Gilligan Wehrum, 95, of Dunmore passed away peacefully on June 11.
She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Evancho Keating and attended St. Paul’s High School in Scranton. Shortly after graduation, she married John Gilligan and they had three children before his death when Dodie was just 25 years old. As a widow in the 1950s, she will forever be admired by her family and friends for beginning a career and supporting her young children.
Dolores was a licensed insurance agent and broker and worked at local insurance agencies over the next several decades. As an avid golfer and bowler, she was a member of several women’s leagues. Dolores was a skilled gardener and enjoyed the time she spent on her landscape. She also loved taking bus trips with her many friends.
In addition to her parents, her brother John Keating, and her first husband, Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Wehrum, and her daughters Susan Gilligan Navorouski, RN, and Dr. Judith Gilligan Pace Templeton.
Dolores is survived by her son Martin Gilligan and his wife Mary Barbara of Dallas; grandchildren Jillian Navorouski, Jocelyn Navorouski Keeney (Justin), Lisa Pace Navarro (Sergio), John Gilligan (Sarah), Kathryn Gilligan, and Molly Gilligan (Brian Haughwout); great-grandchildren Maggie and Jack Gilligan, Elizabeth Keeney, and Voss, Enso, and Jude Navarro; and son-in-law James Navorouski and partner Mary Ann Burns. Carlye Griffin was her cherished friend for over 40 years. Her many Keating cousins and the McGraw, Cummings, and Wehrum family members were also special to her. The family wishes to thank the caregivers that were an important part of her later years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Ave and E. Gibson Street, Scranton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Dunmore Cemetery.
