Dominick Tomaro Obituary

Dominick J. Tomaro, 89, of Dunmore, died on Wednesday at the Greenridge Care Center where he was a resident since November. Surviving is his wife of 64 years, the former Ann Marie Kelly.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Mecca Tomaro. Dom was a member of SS Anthony&Rocco Parish in Dunmore. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1955.

After graduation, Dom served with the US Army in Detroit, Michigan, with the Guided Missel Control. Upon discharge from the Army, he was employed at Firestone, where he honed his skills as a master mechanic. He left Firestone and began a career at RCA in Dunmore. He retired in 1999 from RCA/Thompson Consumer Electronics as the 2nd shift superintendent of manufacturing, a job he loved where he formed lifetime friendships that he maintained until his last days. After retirement, he began working at the Scranton Municipal Golf Course as a starter in charge of organizing the leagues. There couldn’t be a more perfect job for him.  Other than work, Dom’s two passions were golf and football. He loved nothing more than spending time with his friends on the links. In the off season, he spent hours planning trips, making clubs, taking lessons and reliving stories sure to include his two holes in one. He was a loyal fan of the Dunmore Bucks, Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.

Special thanks to the staff at Greenridge Care Center for the excellent care they gave our dad, and his niece, Gina Tomassoni and his very best friend, Frank Archer, for always being with him to assist in any way they could.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Cathy Egan and her husband Bob, Dunmore and Margi Johnson and her husband Jeff, Daleville. Two grandchildren which he adored, John Egan and wife Nicole, Dunmore and Zan Johnson, Daleville. Sisters-in laws, Jo Ann Tomaro, Dunmore and Dolores Tomassoni, Old Forge and brother-in law, Eugene Tomassoni, Old Forge, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Tomaro.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St. in Dunmore. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery. There are no public calling hours.
