Donald W. Tumavitch Obituary

Donald W. Tumavitch, 88, Scranton, died Saturday afternoon in Allied Hospice Center. He was married 46 years to his beloved wife, the former Angelina Santomauro, who died in 2013.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Stanley and Elizabeth Lopeck Tumavitch, attended Scranton Schools and was a member of the former St. David’s Church and was currently a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Scranton. Prior to retirement, he worked as a chef at several Scranton diners throughout the years, most notably, the Glider Diner, where patrons would see him sharply dressed in his white shirts and paper hat.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather who was a hardworking gentleman and role model for his family. He greatly enjoyed teaching fishing skills to his sons, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and performances, and long walks at McDade park. He will be remembered as an excellent cook and an avid Seattle Seahawks football fan.

His family wishes to thank the staff at Allied Hospice, the nurses at Geisinger Community Medical Center and Geisinger at Home for the care and compassion shown to Donald.

Surviving are two sons, Nicholas and his wife Kathy, South Abington Township, and Donald J. and his wife Ruth Ann, Scranton, four grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Elizabeth, West Rutland, VT, Jonathan, Orlando, FL, and Rebecca and Lauren Tumavitch, Scranton, two brothers, Paul and his wife Martha, Old Forge, and Stanley and his wife Ann Marie, Dunmore, a sister Dolores Shemanski and her husband Frank, Connecticut, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister Evelyn Lampman.
