Dorothy C. Haas, 94, Scranton, died Monday morning at Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Scranton, PA. She was the wife of the late Curt J. Haas, who died in 2003.
Born in Scranton to the late Meyer and Adeline Sweetwood Dolitzky, she attended Highland Manor School and is a graduate of Casement School, Daytona, FL. She also studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Dorothy was a member of Temple Israel in Scranton where she was an active volunteer. Using her talented artistic eye, she assisted with decorative set up and floral arrangements for many events through the years.
Dorothy had great friendships, and she was an extremely giving, loving, sweet, and generous person.
Dorothy was an adored grandmother to her two grandchildren, always fashionably dressed, and enjoyed an active social life with good friends until very recently. Beyond cherishing her family, especially her grandchildren, Dorothy loved animals and cultivated beautiful flowers in her yard.
Surviving are two sons, Mark Haas, Scranton and Steven Haas and his wife Dorian Brown, New York City, granddaughters Cara and Samantha Haas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Murray Dolitzky, and sisters Arlene Dolitzky and Muriel Greenfield.
The funeral will be Tuesday, April 11 at 1pm at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with services by Rabbi Miriam Spitzer and Cantor Vladimir Aronzon. Interment will take place in Temple Israel Cemetery in Dunmore.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 12pm until the service begins.
Shiva will be observed at the Jewish Community Center, 601 Jefferson Ave, Scranton on Tuesday, April 11 from 3PM-5:30PM and at the home of Ellen Goodman, 912 Taylor Avenue in Scranton, on Friday, April 14 from 1PM-6PM.
