Dorothy Marie Gilroy Lenhart

Dorothy Marie Gilroy Lenhart, 94, formerly of Scranton and Hamburg, PA, passed away peacefully Friday evening at Saint Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst Township where she had been residing. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 36 years, James A., who passed away in 2019.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John P. Gilroy and Florence Dux Gilroy, she was a graduate of the University of Scranton and Lehigh University.  Prior to retirement she was a devoted teacher at the Fogelsville Elementary School in the Parkland School District where she loved seeing her students flourish and grow, and the satisfaction of being a positive influence on the future generation.

During retirement she enjoyed traveling the country with her husband, Jim, in their motor home and wintering in Florida.

Surviving is her sister, Helen G. Yearing; her stepchildren, Sandra and her husband David Kline, Patricia and her husband William Gehringer, Michael J. Lenhart, and David A. Lenhart and wife Dianne. Also surviving are grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings John Gilroy and Mary Elizabeth Riley. 

The family would like to thank the staff of Saint Mary’s Villa Personal Care and Saint Mary’s Villa Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care over the last few years.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1 p.m. in Saint Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton, PA.

Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.

Family and friends may pay their respects Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
