Dorothy S. (Shiffman) Silverman

Dorothy S. Silverman, 101, a former Scranton resident, died Saturday at the Quadrangle, Haverford, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester Silverman in 1959.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Rose Furman Shiffman. Dorothy was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School, class of 1937, and served as the class salutatorian. She was a member of the Scranton Jewish Community Center and its Senior Adult Club.

Before retirement, she was employed in merchandising. Dorothy enjoyed playing bridge and Scrabble and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved being with family and was affectionately known as Gigi.

Surviving are a daughter, Terry Silverman Feeney and husband, Thomas, Wynnewood, Pa.; grandchildren, Lauren Feeney and husband, Cameron Hickey, Jaimie Hunter and husband, Miles and Daniel Feeney and wife, Basia; great-grandchildren, Declan, Calder and Johnny Feeney, and Zoey and Oliver Hunter; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Morris "Mishie" Shiffman; and a sister, Lillian Noble.

Dorothy's funeral service will be held Monday at noon in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, by Rabbi Dovid Saks. Her family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment to follow in Dalton Jewish Cemetery.

Local shiva will be observed Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel, 100 Adams Ave., Scranton.
