Dr. Joseph J. Barrette, DMD

Dr. Joseph J. Barrette, DMD, 78, Dunmore, PA died Thursday April 27th, 2023 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol Barrette (Wnuk).

Born in Pittston, PA, Joe was the son of the late Sam and Mary Barrette. He graduated from Scranton Preparatory School Class of 1962 and the University of Scranton Class of 1966. He went on to earn his DMD from Penn Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He then entered the U.S. Navy where he served honorably for two years of active duty during the Vietnam War. After returning from military service, Joe practiced family dentistry in Dunmore for close to thirty years before retiring in 2000. He was a long-time member of the National Dental Association as well as Elkview Country Club.

Joe had a true passion for his family and friends, with a selfless approach in life to ensure those around him were always cared for. He had an insatiable thirst for reading, gaining knowledge, playing golf, photography, videography, creating stained glass, talking politics, traveling the world, and took amazing pride in his oasis of flower beds and perfectly groomed grass.   

Also surviving is his daughter, Lisa and her husband Christopher Fowler, Exton, PA.  His sons Joseph A. Barrette and his wife Lisa, Chatham, NJ, and Mike Barrette and his wife Jenn, Camp Hill, PA. There are seven grandchildren, Nate and Emma Fowler, Andrew and Cooper Barrette, Alannah, Lily, and Sophie Barrette.  Joe is survived by his sister, Ann Minella and her husband Jim, Old Forge, PA.

The funeral will be Thursday May 4th, 2023 from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut Street, Dunmore, PA. Inurnment will take place in the Dunmore Cemetery 400 Church Street, Dunmore, PA.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday May 3rd at the funeral home from 4pm-7pm
