Ed Balderson, 58, Taylor, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at home. He and his wife, the former Margo Gillette, celebrated their 6th wedding anniversary on July 18th.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of Theresa Carnevale Balderson and the late Thomas Balderson. Ed was a graduate of Dunmore High School, Class of 1981. Big Ed, as known by many, played semi-pro football for the Scranton Eagles and the Pocono Mountaineers and was the manager at the Dunmore E-Z Shop before its closing. He was a bouncer at numerous area bars and clubs and most recently was employed for the last 30 years as the manager of Jerry’s For All Seasons and Party Tent Rentals in Dunmore.
He was an avid fan of both Penn State Football and the Dallas Cowboys and loved tending to his ever-growing vegetable garden and the family cat, Jovi. He bowled locally for over 40 years in countless leagues including the Thursday night TNT league, in which he bowled a perfect 300 game. Most recently he was a member of the Saturday night mixed leagues at South Side Bowl.
Ed will be remembered as a man of few words with a huge heart. He loved spending time with his family and watching all the craziness unfold with a big smile on his face. He loved his wife and stepdaughters more than anything and was always there for them. He enjoyed watching Maddie on the mound, as she competed in countless softball games and tournaments and was one of her biggest supporters, on and off the field. He was always there to support Alexa in her many endeavors, whether it was school, work or fun. Even though he was quiet in nature, he was an adventurous man who would do anything for those he loved.
In addition to his wife and mother, also surviving are his stepdaughters, Alexa and Maddie Aulisio, at home; his three sisters, Sandy Wilbur and her children Gary and Stephanie Fletcher; Angel Reid and her husband Michael, Throop, and their children Michael and Samantha; and Terry Radle and her husband Michael, Clarks Summit, and their sons, Thomas, Brian, and Jordan; mother-in-law, Nancy Gillette, Dunmore; three sisters-in-law, Marie Bonavoglia and her husband Vincent, Dunmore, and their children Nina, Mia, and Vinny; Patti Spady and her husband Damon, Dunmore; and Laura Mills and her husband David, Dunmore, and their daughter Annabelle; also his lifelong best friend Bob Petrillo, with whom he could always be found.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Dunmore, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis Pauselli.
