Edward Joseph Conroy, affectionately known as Ed or Eddie, passed away on April 13, 2025, at 84. Born in Scranton, he was the son of Francis and Clare Conroy.
Ed was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Yvonne, who preceded him in death. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, camping and travel. They married on Oct. 7, 1961, and raised three daughters, Karen, Christine, and Kathy.
Ed was a seasoned truck driver working for companies such as Columbia Distributing and Pennsylvania Bedding with an extraordinary knack for navigation. In the era before GPS technology became commonplace, he possessed an almost encyclopedic knowledge of roads and directions, making him the go-to source for detailed travel directions among family members.
After retiring from trucking, Ed’s commitment to staying active led him to another chapter of work in the bakery department at the Dunmore Price Chopper, where he spent 17 years before retiring again at the age of 79.
He had a love for music that filled his days with joy, from classic country tunes to rock ‘n’ roll favorites that he never tired of. Sundays were often spent cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers. One of his greatest passions, though, was supporting the Dunmore Lady Bucks Basketball team. He rarely missed a game and was one of their most loyal fans.
Ed was a member of the Dunmore United Methodist Church. He loved attending church, especially listening to the hymns played on the organ by Lisa or the songs sung by Pastor Tom. He took his job of lighting the candles before each service seriously.
Friends and family will remember Ed for his playful personality. He loved visiting and talking with everyone. He loved playing with his grandchildren when they were younger and took great joy in laughing and playing with his youngest great grandchildren, Isla, Vaida, and Opal.
Ed was a loving father to his children, Karen Phillips and husband, Doug, Kentwood, Mich.; Christine Beck and husband, Scott, Dunmore; and Kathy Walsh and husband Joe, Dunmore. Ed’s grandchildren include Luke Phillips, Morgan Beck, John Kolcharno, Vonnie Kate Fielder and husband Jonathan, Michael Kolcharno and wife Paige, Aaron Beck and wife Amber, and Rylee Walsh, as well as two step-grandchildren, Sarah Evans and Jessica Biesemeyer. Ed also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Christopher Biesemeyer, Gabriel Biesemeyer, Taylor Evans, Isla Kolcharno, Vaida Kolcharno and Opal Kolcharno. He is survived by his sisters, Jane Tunney, Patrica Bulman and Clare Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his brothers Francis and Thomas Conroy.
The family would like to thank Edward’s physician, Dr. William Speicher and the 8East Nursing team at Regional (Mercy) Hospital that treated him with such dignity, care, and compassion.
