Edward L. Longo, 94, Scranton, died Saturday evening at home under the guidance of Allied Home Hospice, administered by his son Robert with his children Sarah and Brian assisting. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annette Longo in 1985, and by his second wife, Jane Longo in 1999.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Joseph G. and Madeline Colangelo Longo, he was a 1947 graduate of West Scranton High School. A devout Catholic, he was lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church in Scranton. Edward began working at a young age helping his parents at their family business, Longo’s Grocery and then later managed the Circle Drive In, in Dickson City. Edward furthered his career by becoming an electronic technician at the Avoca Airport. In 1961, he became a radar site technician with the Federal Aviation Administration, a career he truly loved.
Edward was a lifelong member of the NRA and the Factoryville Sportsman Club, and was a gunsmith throughout his life, building many match rifles. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving is his daughter Linda Brodt and husband, Peter, FL; sons, Albert Longo and companion, Deb, FL and Robert Longo, Scranton; grandchildren Robert, David, Brian, Sarah, Heather, and Melissa; great-grandchildren Abby, Wyatt, Talia, Mila, and Layla; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his brother Joseph F. Longo and his daughter-in-law, Doreen Longo.
The funeral will be Thursday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Jackson Street, Scranton. All those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment to follow in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Family and friends may pay their respects Wednesday evening from 4-7 p.m. at Savino Traditional Funerals and Cremation Care, 157 S. Main Ave., West Scranton. Carl J. Savino, Jr., Supervisor.
