Elaine Selznick Obituary

Elaine Selznick, 94, of South Abington Township, died Saturday at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur M. Selznick, in 1987.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Morris and Gertrude Ruttenberg Gross, she graduated cum laude from Hunter College with a bachelor’s degree in math and a minor in chemistry, after which she pursued graduate study in those same fields.  Prior to retirement, she had been employed in information technology by the United States Army at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, New Jersey.

A worrier extraordinaire, Elaine still loved to learn, and was always open to new things, even as far as going on her first hike at age 70.  She found the world to be wildly interesting with much to do, so boredom was not something that she experienced.

She devoted her life to caring for her son, Steven, who has special needs, pouring her heart into ensuring his well-being and happiness. Her deep connection those in that community fueled her commitment to offering support and understanding for those facing similar challenges.

She will also be remembered as one who loved to laugh and could give the best fluffy hugs.

Surviving is a daughter, Loren Selznick, and a son, Steven Selznick, both of Clarks Summit; a granddaughter Aliza Selznick of Kauai, Hawaii; a sister, Sandra Panzer of Elizabeth, NJ; as well as nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, New Jersey.

Shiva will be observed at the residence of her daughter, Loren Selznick, 404 Fairview Ave., Clarks Summit, Thursday, January 23rd from 7-9 p.m.

Contributions in Elaine’s memory may be made to The Arc of Northeastern Pennsylvania, 115 Meadow Avenue, Scranton, PA 18505.
