Elizabeth A. Dickstein Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” A. Dickstein, 76, of South Abington Township, died Friday evening at home surrounded by her loving family, after suffering with illness. She is now at peace with her husband, Alan S. Dickstein, who died in 2019. Bets and Al spent the last years of their lives living with and being cared for by Sherri and Ray, and their children. There she was surrounded with family, laughter and lots of love. Over the years she watched with joy as her family grew and she was able to spend time with her great grandchildren.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Dora Evanina Liesniesky. Her family was her world and there's nothing she loved more than spending time with them. Betty enjoyed cooking and baking. She was amazing in the kitchen, ask anyone who tried her famous coffee cake, cheeseballs, or pierogi. She loved hosting parties for family and friends, especially at Lake Winola. She also found joy in the simple things like playing cards or board games, watching football (or any sports for that matter) or her soaps, playing scratch offs or just relaxing on the front porch. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren playing sports, going to visit Donnie and Sami in Michigan, watching her great-grandchildren play or chatting on the phone with her “out of town” grandchildren. She had a warm spot in her heart for dogs, and loved all of the family’s pups.

Surviving her are two loving daughters, a son, and their children. Kim and Jimmy Conaboy of Hanover, and children Kyle, Tyler, Kieltie and fiance Nick Vanderpool, Collin, Camden, Shannan, Kelten and Kaiden; Sherri and Ray Basalyga of South Abington Township and children Brittney Hiller and husband Ryan, Alicia, Justin and wife Rebecca, Paige and fiance Jake Peterson; and son Donnie Dickstein of Michigan and his daughter Sami. Additionally, great-grandchildren Liam, Ryleigh, and Carter Hiller, Peyton and Harper Peterson, and Mason Basalyga; Her sister Dorothy Cherochak of Throop, her brother Peter Liesniesky of Clarks Summit; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters Lillian Yusinski, Barbara Passeri, and Pearl Liford; and brothers Ed Liesniesky and Al Liesniesky.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. John Sobuto, Dr. John Farrell, Dr. Haggerty, Kristen Maritato PA-C, as well as the nurses and aides of Allied Services Home Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Betty during her times of need.

As per Betty’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held in Temple Israel Cemetery, Dunmore.

The family will receive friends at the Basalyga's home, 409 Brian Drive,  South Abington Township, 18411 on Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
