Elizabeth R. "Betty" (Kiesel) Pichiarello

Elizabeth R. “Betty” Pichiarello, 94, Jefferson Township and formerly of Dunmore, died Saturday at home.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Pichiarello, on October 2, 2012.

Born in Throop, daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Rebar Kiesel, she was a graduate of Throop High School and a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society in Dunmore.  She and her late husband had owned and operated Jim’s AG Superette in the Bunker Hill Section of Dunmore for many years.  Betty enjoyed world traveling, crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, was an avid reader, and enjoyed cooking and baking.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up.

Surviving is a son, Joseph Pichiarello, and wife Carol of Dunmore; daughters Mary Beth Pichiarello of Fairfield, CT and Ann Janeski and husband Robert of Delmar, NY; grandchildren James and Dr. Joseph M. Pichiarello, and John and James Janeski; daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Pichiarello; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her brother John Kiesel; and sisters Margaret Dolack, Ceil Lakatta, Verna Shortz, Pauline Brzezinski, and Mary Yenchek.

The family would like to thank Michael and Mary Alice McCormick and George and Maryann Loeh for all their help in the last few years, especially during the pandemic.

The funeral will be Wednesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 208 Smith St., Dunmore.  All those attending the mass are asked to go directly to the church.  There are no public calling hours. 

Entombment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery.
