Elizabeth Susan "Liz" Granahan Obituary

Elizabeth Susan “Liz” Granahan, 77, Scranton, died Wednesday in Regional Hospital of Scranton.  She is survived by her husband, John A. “Jack” Granahan.  The celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past May 22nd.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Roy J. and Margaret Watkins Griffin, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Keystone Junior College.  Prior to retirement, she was employed as a financial administrator for U.S. District Court Middle District of Pennsylvania.  She had formerly been employed by Lynett Village at Allied Services, and also Hinerfeld Realty.  She was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish, West Scranton, as well its Altar and Rosary Society.

Liz was a wonderful woman in every respect, who raised a family with love and affection that flowed like wine. She was kind and generous with her time to her family, as well as others.  She was a Eucharistic minister at St. Patrick’s Church, taught CCD classes, and was a lectern for many years.  In addition, she loved the volunteer work she performed, helping people during difficult times when she volunteered at Mercy Hospital.  She also spent time at the St. Francis Soup Kitchen and Store.

Elizabeth enjoyed entertaining and her Christmas parties for her fellow court employees, which were both well-received and attended.  She was quite the hostess.  She was a great Notre Dame fan and traveled with her friends from Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, and New Hampshire to the “ND games” for over 30 years.  Elizabeth and her husband enjoyed many trips throughout the country following “their team.”  Aside from many trips around the country, her many trips to Ireland, meeting with family and friends, and making many lasting memories throughout the Emerald Isle were much enjoyed.

Finally, no man ever had a more loving, and supporting, and gracious wife.  Words cannot express how profoundly she’ll be missed.  We are all blessed exceedingly with having known her and having shared her wonderful life.  Love always, Jack.

Surviving is a daughter, Lauren DiBileo and husband Anthony, Scranton; son Thomas B. Kramer, Emmaus, PA; and stepson Atty. Sean Granahan, Montrose; grandchildren Dr. Angela Kalinowski and husband Colby, Caitie DiBileo, R.N., Dr. Griffin DiBileo, and Grace DiBileo; and great-granddaughter Chloe Kalinowski; several cousins.
