Erin Nicole Feeney passed away unexpectedly on July 13 at the Janet Weis Children's Hospital. She passed in the arms of her mother, surrounded by the love of her family.
Erin was born to parents Katie and Dennis Feeney. Although Erin only had three years with us on Earth, she changed the world. Erin was born a fighter and continued to be a fighter until her last breath. Erin has overcome so much in her short life. Erin had autism but that didn't define her or stop her one bit. She showed us how to be better people. Erin was ALWAYS happy. The little things in life we tend to take for granted Erin embraced. Her favorite activities revolved around her sisters Sarah and Meghan as well as her cousins Maggie, Rayna and Claira. She loved singing songs, family dance parties, puzzles and especially her nightly walks with her cousin Anthony (TK) who shared a special bond.
Erin spent most of her days home with her father. They were inseparable. She recently started at NEIU 19 in Dunmore. She had amazing staff and looked forward to going each day. Erin was super active and loved to climb and take things apart. She always loved to keep her parents on their toes.
Erin showed that you do not have to speak to be heard. She showed more love and emotion than anyone we have ever met. She had the ability to light up any room she walked into. Her kisses and hugs could make any bad day turn around in an instant.
Erin is survived by her grandmothers, Jo Ann O'Malley and Mary Feeney. Erin had the privilege of having six siblings who adored her, Kennith (Kelsey Thomas), Paige (Jaiden Super), Liam, Thomas, Sarah, and Meghan; Erin has many aunts, uncles and cousins but truly adored her Uncle Paul O'Malley (Jennifer Radzwillowicz) and her cousins, Shannon, Liam and Maggie O'Malley. She also loved spending time with her Aunt Ellen McDonnell. Her cousins, Anthony Kilker and his daughters, Rayna and Claira also lived in the home and shared a bond more of sisters than cousins.
Erin was proceeded in death by her grandfathers, Paul O'Malley and Dennis Feeney Sr.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at the Janet Weis Children's Hospital for their support and amazing care of Erin, especially Trisha, Alexys and Dr. Jake.
To the community of Dunmore there are no words. In a time of such darkness, you have shown our family light. You are giving us peace knowing that Erin's legacy continues. Erin taught us love we have never known, and that love continues to show through all of you. To the Dunmore police, fireman and EMS we thank you for everything you have done for our family. We cannot even begin to repay you.
Erin's last act of love was made through The Gift of Life. Through her precious gift other children were given the opportunity to live long and healthy lives and will be given the gift of sight.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Jude Zayac Foundation. This organization is near and dear to our hearts as our Erin was a SIDS survivor.
The funeral will be Saturday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave. in Scranton. Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church on Saturday morning.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore.
Interment is private at the convenience of the family.
