Ethel Comes, 92, died on Friday at the Green Ridge Care Center. She was the widow of Angelo Comes, who died on April 15, 1993.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late David Hughes and Edith Dixon Hughes. She was the stepdaughter of the late Frances Caputo Hughes. Before her retirement, she was co-owner of Supreme Laundry in West Scranton. She was a member of St. Lucy’s Church.
Ethel loved spending weekends with her family at the cottage in Gouldsboro and also enjoyed the many trips she took with her husband to visit her sister in Altoona. She and her husband liked traveling to Atlantic City and salmon fishing with friends in New York. She will be missed so very much by everyone who knew her, and the love she gave to family and friends will never be forgotten.
The family would like to thank the Green Ridge Care Center for the love and care they gave her over the past few years. They would also like to thank Dr. Dodge and Sandy for their unending care in keeping her well and comfortable.
Ethel is survived by her two sons, David and his wife, Janice, of Gouldsboro and Louis of Scranton. She also has two granddaughters, Krista Howard and her husband, Gary, and Janine Gebhardt and her husband, Danny. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy as was her great granddaughter, Emily, who brought her so much happiness and laughter; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Carey, and two brothers, David and William Hughes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately for Ethel’s family at St. Lucy’s Church, Scranton on Thursday. Interment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
