Francis L. “Gene” Shoemaker, 95, of Dunmore, died Tuesday at Dunmore Health Care Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Reba Tamm Shoemaker, in 1998.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Charles and Leah Dadey Shoemaker, he attended Scranton Tech High School and went on to serve in the Navy during World War II. Prior to retirement, he worked at Petersburg Silk Mill and HarperCollins. Gene enjoyed going to the casinos as well as spending time with his dog, Sassy.
He is survived by his son, David Shoemaker and wife, Judy, Scranton; a daughter, Marcia Shoemaker, Dunmore; grandchildren, Breanna Shoemaker, Dunmore and Paul Shoemaker and wife, Jessica, Tampa, FL; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles “Chick”, Norman, Gerald, Steven, and Leslie Shoemaker.
The family would like to thank the heroes at Dunmore Health Care Center for their care and compassion they showed towards Gene during his stay with them.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
