Frank “Ziggy” Cerniglia, 96, a lifetime resident of Scranton, passed away peacefully on March 31st at Allied Hospice after a brief illness.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 72 years, Angie (Rescigno), daughter Ann Arcurie (Gino), Moscow, PA and son John Cerniglia (Maureen), Wake Forest, NC. 5 grandchildren, Kristen Cole (Andy), Graig Arcurie (Sarah), Colin Cerniglia (Christine), Daniel Cerniglia (Kayla) and Timothy Cerniglia. 10 great-grandchildren Luciano, Gaetano, Alessio & Domenico Arcurie, Amelia & AJ Cole, Stella & Arya Cerniglia and Sadie & Abigail Cerniglia, along with several nieces.
Frank worked for many years for the A&P Produce and the Scranton School District. After retirement, he went back to part-time work as a greeter/driver for several local funeral homes, most notably Carl Savino’s in West Scranton. For 40+ years, he was a league secretary and bowler for the Local 229 bowling league. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
A kind, gentle man, Frank was a devoted Catholic and lifelong parishioner of St Lucy’s Church in West Scranton. His faithfulness to family and friends was the way Frank lived his long, rich life. He will be greatly missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday April 11th at 10AM in St. Eulaila’s Church, Roaring Brook Township. Burial to follow in Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Township.
Family and friends may visit Friday April 10th from 4PM-6PM at Savino Traditional Funerals & Cremation Care in West Scranton, Carl J. Savino, Jr.- Supervisor.
