Fred Wolfgang, longtime resident of Scranton, Pa., passed away at Traditions of Wayland, Mass., on June 3, 2023. He was 95.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on April 12, 1928, he was the son of William and Gertrude Wolfgang. He attended the University of Scranton and served in the United States Army, honorably discharged with the rank of corporal. Apart from his military service overseas, he lived in Scranton for most of his 95 years. In the last year of his life, he lived with his nephew's family in Acton, Mass.
He is survived by his nieces, Sabina Rasenow, of Oakland, Calif.; Julie Pangburn, of Malvern, Pa.; and Melissa Van Doren, of Portland, Ore.; and Amy Dubin, of New York City; and his nephews, William Rachman, of Shirley, Mass.; Bruce Rachman, of Acton, Mass.; and Stephen Rachman, of East Lansing, Mich.; Joel Knoblauch, of Reading, Pa.; and Peter Knoblauch, of Reading, Pa.
A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Temple Israel Cemetery, West Warren Street, Dunmore, by Rabbi Miriam Spitzer. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. There will be no local shiva.
