Gary N. Silverstein, 80, passed away suddenly at Geisinger - Community Medical Center, Scranton. Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Harry Silverstein and Jeanne A. Wallach.
He pursued his passion for animal care at Cornell University, where he earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. With that foundation, Gary went on to build and operate his own veterinary practice, dedicating his career to the health and well-being of animals and the families who cherished them. His clinic became a trusted cornerstone of the community, known for both expert care and the kindness with which it was delivered.
Beyond his professional life, Gary was an avid fly fisherman who found joy and peace in casting for trout along quiet streams. His love of the outdoors reflected his appreciation for nature’s rhythms and his gift for patience
Gary was proud of his Jewish heritage, which shaped his values of compassion, integrity, and devotion to family.
Gary is survived by his sister, Debra, and her husband Ivan of Allen, Texas; two brothers, Laurence and his wife Denise of New Jersey, and Daniel of New York; nieces Jennifer Siek and her husband Joseph and their children Andrew, Tyler and Hailey, Lindsay Domenico and her husband Michael and son Jase; a nephew, Dr. Michael Silverstein and his wife Michelle and their children Nathan, Alex and Eli; and many beloved cousins.
A graveside funeral service was held for Gary in the New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon, NY on Monday.
