George Thomas Dervas, 72, of Dunmore, passed away Monday evening at the Dunmore Health Care Center in Dunmore.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late James and Victoria Nevoso Dervas and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore.
He was 1967 graduate of Dunmore High School and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in science from the University of Scranton. Prior to retirement, he worked for the Pennsylvania Department of State as a vocational rehabilitation counselor.
He was a former member of St. Mary’s choir and a former member of the church’s RCIA team. George was a talented musician and enjoyed walking around Dunmore. He was always shopping for the “elusive” Volkswagen with his son and nephews. He loved spending time with his loyal dog, Daisy. He was a loving and supportive son, father, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving are his son, James, Dunmore; a sister, Marie Fornicola and husband, Dominic, Nicholson; nieces and nephews, Rachel Hibson and husband, Kevin; Christopher Wilmarth; Jeffrey Carpenter and companion, Bridget; Timothy Carpenter and wife, Amanda; and Robert Carpenter and companion, Angie; cousins; great-nieces and great-nephews; and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment, Forest Hill Cemetery, Dunmore.
Friends may visit Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
