Gregory Raymond Zarnoski passed away unexpectedly at the age of 72 on January 28th, 2026. He is survived by two daughters, Aria Thompson (Colby) and Kyra Zarnoski (Brian Goble); two grandsons, Kealan and Tage; mother Irene Zarnoski; sister Gail Capalong (Andrew); nephew A.J; and aunt Veronica Sleyo. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry.
Born on November 25th, 1953, Greg grew up in Blakely where he enjoyed a childhood full of curiosity and mischief. Whenever he would tell stories about his younger self, including one about stuffing bologna sandwiches up a drain pipe, he would make everyone laugh until their stomachs hurt. He had the ability to light up any room with his innate sense of humor and unique perspective on the world.
Greg’s inquisitive nature led him to career in research and development at Gertrude Hawk Chocolates, where he started out in the kitchen of Gertrude herself, and spent four decades creating and refining formulas for a wide variety of chocolate confections as the company grew.
Greg also was an avid cyclist, and he had a deep love of music. As a passionate choral singer, he was a founding member of the Lyric Consort, and he spent years participating in Robert Dale Choral, Singers’ Guild of Scranton, Zussamen, Ekumen Chorale, and Marywood University Concert Choir. Inspired by genres ranging from classic rock to jazz, Greg spent much of his time “jamming” along on his guitars to music by his favorite artists.
Greg was loved by so many people for his musical talents, his comical wit, and his quirky disposition. He is greatly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
