Irene Paradise Obituary

Irene K. Paradise, 82, died peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday morning in St. Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst. She was the wife of the late Joseph S. Paradise who died April 14, 2018. They had been married for 55 years.

Born in Scranton on March 24, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Koda Symuleski. Irene was a graduate of Moosic High School Class of 1961 and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish in Minooka. She was employed by local McDonald’s franchisees Albert and Carol Mueller for 27 years and along with her husband purchased local franchise Auntie Anne’s Viewmont Mall and owned and operated it for nearly 20 years before retirement.

Irene was an avid music fan who especially enjoyed Elvis Presley. She was a loyal friend who maintained several friendships from her early school days until her passing. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and annual trips with her husband to The Villages in Florida.

Surviving are her sons, Mark J. Paradise and his wife Lisa and Joseph A. Paradise and his wife Joanne, five grandchildren, Joseph J. Paradise and his wife Kaitlyn, Heather Montiel and her husband Eduardo, Alexandra Daly and her husband Rob, Matthew Paradise and his wife Blaire, and Mark Paradise Jr. and his wife Vicky, eight great grandchildren, Joseph, James, Olive, Annie, Lucy, Kali, Harper, and Maxwell along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a sister Evelyn Furdin and her husband Stanley and a brother, Joseph Symuleski and his wife Peggy.

Irene’s family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at both Hospice of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s Villa, for the care and compassion shown to Irene and to them while she was in their care.

The funeral will be Saturday morning from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis Street in Scranton. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home from 9-10:30AM. Interment will take place in Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Scranton.
