Israel Silver, 94, Scranton, died Wednesday afternoon in the Jewish Home of Eastern PA in Scranton, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 66 years, the former Florence E. Rayman.
Born in Boston, MA, son of the late Samuel and Rose Alpert Silver, Israel entered the United States Air Force immediately upon graduation from high school. After his honorable discharge from the services, he returned to Boston and attended Burdett College and later Suffolk University, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was an avid fan of Boston sports—the Celtics, New England Patriots, and Red Sox—but his true passion was for U.S. history, especially of the presidents. He also had a genuine fondness for classical music and was a member of Temple Israel in Scranton.
Surviving is a daughter, Robin Lukasik and husband Larry, Roaring Brook Township, PA; a son, Stephen Silver, Berlin, NH; grandchildren Lindsay Bazelmans and husband Jarrod, Merrimack, NH, and Stephanie Silver, Milford, NH; and great-grandson, Grayson Bazelmans; a sister, Frances Silver, Brookline, MA; and several cousins.
The funeral will be Sunday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a service at noon by Rabbi Yaakov Bilus and Cantor Vladimir Aronzon. Friends may call from 11:15 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment, Temple Israel Cemetery, Dunmore.
