John “Jack” Garvey, 72, Dunmore, died Tuesday at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton. His fiancé and longtime companion is Monica DeMarco.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Edward and Margaret Juba Garvey and was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1971.
Jack was an avid and incredible saxophone player since he started playing at the age of 14. He was a member of the band Corner Pocket Blues and played with Dashboard Mary. He loved photography, playing music for others, cooking, his hometown of Dunmore and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the summer he could be found playing at the Annual Dunmore Shindig and frequented local open mic nights with band members. He retired in 2021 from The Sister of IHM Center where he was a cook for retired nuns.
He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Garvey and his wife Barbara.
A funeral service will held Saturday at 6PM in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore. Friends may visit from 4PM-6PM. Inurnment will take place privately in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Dunmore.
