James E. Cardwell of Mill City died peacefully at home on Tuesday afternoon. His widow is Charlene A. Cardwell. They observed their 40th wedding anniversary on Aug. 9.
Born in Scranton, son of the late James E. and Helen Geiger Cardwell, he earned the BSA Eagle Scout, was a graduate of St. Patrick High School and Penn State University, class of 1976. He was a retiree of Carpenters Union Local 445, where he was proudly employed for more than 30 years. James was also a devout humanitarian who spent countless hours donating his carpentry skills to friends, family and strangers in need, including local churches and Habitat for Humanity. He was always ready to lend a helpful hand or a shoulder to cry on for anyone, for any reason.
Also surviving are a son, Joshua; daughter-in-law, Cari; and two grandsons, Ryker and Cortland. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helene.
No funeral will be held, just a private memorial service for close friends and family.
