James Tarity Jr.

James Tarity, Jr., 74, South Abington Township, died Sunday evening in Linwood Nursing and Rehab in Scranton. He and his wife, the former Carol Ann Giorgio had been married for 48 years on April 2nd.

Born in Pittston and raised in Hughestown, Jim was the son of the late James and Louise Orlando Tarity Sr., and graduated from Pittston Area High School Class of 1967. He went on to earn a bachelor degree in Political Science from Wilkes College, a masters degree in Public Administration from Penn State University, and a doctorate in Adult Education from Temple University. Prior to retirement Jim was co-owner and president of Schuylkill Business Institute and principal of La Salle Academy in Jessup.

Jim greatly enjoyed going for coffee with his friends and watching Penn State Football, The New York Yankees, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Also surviving are two sons, James III of Dunmore and Frank of South Abington Twp., two sisters, Cheryl Lucarelli and her husband Arthur of Old Forge, and Laura Rokita, Wilkes Barre, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Joseph and an infant sister Lynne as well as a nephew, Art Lucarelli.

Jim’s family wishes to thank the staff at Linwood Nursing and Rehab for all the care and compassion shown to him and them throughout his illness.

A funeral will be held at 12PM on Thursday in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore. Friends may visit Thursday from 10AM until the time of service. Burial will follow in the St. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery in Peckville.
