James J. Pappa Obituary

James J. Pappa, 74, Taylor, died Monday in Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton. He and his wife the former Beverly Steinmetz had celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 22nd.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Ernest A. and Lillian V. Carey Pappa. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School Class of 1967, he attended the University of Scranton, and prior to retirement worked for Geisinger-Community Medical Center as a Certified Dietary Manager.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He was very generous, and by example, taught his grandsons to give to others including donating food to the soup kitchen on holidays.  He loved his cat Tatum and his dog Rudy who recently passed away.  He was a fabulous cook and no one ever left his home hungry.  Jim and Bev enjoyed each other’s company and loved watching movies together.  Jim looked forward to football season every year and was an avid Penn State fan.  Jim will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and lighthearted playful teasing.  Jim was one of a kind and will never be replaced.  Bev’s heart will be empty and missing him always and forever.

His family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff on the 4th floor at Geisinger- Community Medical Center for the kindness, empathy, and professionalism shown to James and to them.

Also surviving are two daughters, Farrah Roberts and her husband Harold Jr., Delmont, PA, and Alycia Pappa, Taylor, two grandsons, Noah Ross, Tennessee and Carter Pappa, Taylor, a sister Sally Pappa, Boston, and a brother Ernest Pappa and his wife Maria, Clarks Summit, a brother-in-law Paul Steinmetz and his wife Toni, Nicholson and nieces and nephews.
