James J. Tighe "Tighey", 88, of West Scranton and formerly of Dunmore, passed away on Friday evening at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton.
Born in his homestead in Dunmore, he was the son of the late John T. and Margaret Kelly Tighe and was a 1954 graduate of Dunmore High School. He entered the Navy upon graduation with his best friend Jerry Fitzpatrick. Prior to retirement, he worked in sales. Those who knew Tighey would say, "Tighey could sell the Brooklyn Bridge Twice."
Tighey was a well-known and very respected man and a proud Dunmorean. He was passionate about his Irish heritage and was a loyal Notre Dame football fan. He enjoyed his many trips to Ireland and was proud of his former business, the infamous Tighey's Irish Pub in West Scranton. Tighey touched the lives of many generations. He was truly a father figure to so many young men who came to him for advice on a regular basis. He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving are sons, Michael and fiancé Elizabeth Cannon and Robert and wife Jodi, all of Scranton. Also surviving is his long-time companion Nancy Rose. Grandchildren, Allison Tighe, Abigail and Olivia Kearney and Joseph Tighe. His former wife, Alice McGough-Tighe, Scranton. A brother-in-law, James McGough and wife Nancy. A sister-in-law, Margaret Fiorini, all of Scranton. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by infant daughters, Karen and Bridget. A son, Lt.Col. James J. Tighe, Jr. A sister, Ann Lalley and husband William " Kelly" Lalley. Brothers, John T. Tighe and wife Wanda J. and brother-in-law, William Fiorini. We can't forget Tighey's dog, Donovan whose friendship he cherished. Our Dad's hero in life was his Beautiful Mother Margaret Kelly Tighe whom he worshipped and spoke of regularly.
DON'T FORGET "TIGHEY LOVES YOU"
